Kokugo

Kokugo 9 (Grade 9)
This course focuses on strengthening basic skills for the Japanese language as a mother tongue. We will encourage our students to show positive participation in classes. Students will get used to Japanese through reading various introductory materials. They will achieve proficiency in reading and writing so that they may catch up with Kokugo for tenth grade entry. This course includes grammar, vocabulary building through kanji or idiomatic expression, and general knowledge about Japan and its literature.
このコースの目的は母語としての日本語を学習していく基礎力をつけることである。そのためには、まず生徒の授業に対する積極的な態度が大切である。様々な種類の文章を読むことにより、高校レベルの国語10の授業についていける力を養う。国文法、漢字や慣用表現を通しての語彙力を養成し、さらに日本および日本文化に対する一般的な知識を身につける。なお生徒の経歴を考慮し、レベル別に授業を行う。

Kokugo 10 (Grade 10)
This is an introductory course for Kokugo. This course’s purpose is to acquire basic skills for the Kokugo of high school level. Students will not only be reading various modern Japanese writings such as novels and essays, but also will be starting to learn Chinese and Japanese classics for beginners. We require students to build vocabulary, particularly through kanji practice, and verbalize their ideas in class.
このコースは高校国語の第一歩であり、高校生としての国語の基礎力を養うことを目的としている。小説や随筆などの様々な現代文の読み方だけでなく、古典（古文、漢文）の初歩も学ぶ。特に漢字の学習を通して語彙力を養い、さらに自分の考えを発表する力を身につける。なお生徒の経歴を考慮し、レベル別に授業を行う。

Kokugo 11 (Grade 11)
This course is designed to improve overall ability for reading comprehension and self-expression. Students are supposed to have learned their basic skills to study Japanese already through Kokugo 10. They will read more modern Japanese masterpieces and famous classics of Chinese and Japanese. As the level of each material gets more difficult, a more positive and serious attitude of each student will be required.
このコースは国語10で既に身につけた高校生としての国語の基礎力をもとに、より高度な読解力を養うのが目的である。内容も入門的なものから、より深く複雑な現代日本文学の名作や有名な古典に進むため、生徒の一層の積極的で真剣な姿勢が必要である。なお生徒の経歴を考慮し、レベル別に授業を行う。

Kokugo 12 (Grade 12)
The aim of this course is to enable our students to integrate what they have learned so far. They will read many advanced masterpieces of various cultures and values. They will be exposed to profound and complicated literary concepts to deepen their thoughts. We also encourage them to articulate their own views with proper phraseology, from different perspectives, both in writing and discussion. This is regarded as necessary preparation for studying at Keio University.
このコースの目的は、今までに学んだことを統合し、深めていく力を養うことにある。様々な文化、価値観に基づく名作を読むことにより、より高度で文学的な概念に触れ、考えを深めていく。授業を通して色々な視点からものごとを見つめ、自分の考えを適当な言葉遣いで正確に書いたり話したりする力を養うことは、慶應義塾で学ぶための必要最低の準備であり、生徒の真摯な姿勢が必要である。なお生徒の能力・経歴を考慮し、レベル別に授業を行う。
