
Kokugo 9 (9th Grade)
This course provides students with Kokugo classes that are the same level as those given in the last year of junior high school in Japan. Students learn various topics through a variety of reading materials. The goal of this course is for students to develop their reading skills. They will also master Japanese kanji, vocabulary, and grammar. Students actively participate in the class and cultivate basic Japanese skills. The students are divided into classes according to their language skills while considering the differences in each student’s background.
Kokugo 10 (10th Grade)
In this class, students study Kokugo that is the same level as the ones taught in Japan. Reading materials such as advanced novels, essays, and critiques are used in 10th grade classes in Japanese high school. As they learn how to read and write Japanese through their study of Japanese literature, they broaden their vocabulary knowledge and become accustomed to thinking logically in Japanese. Furthermore, students also learn how to read basic classic Japanese and Chinese literature. Delivering presentations in class and composing essays are also components of the course. Students are divided into classes according to their language skills depending on the differences in each student’s background.
Kokugo 11 (11th Grade)
Students, in this class, learn the same level Kokugo as 11th graders’ in Japan. They develop an appreciation of Japanese literature as they read well-known modern novels and high level essays. This is done in order to cultivate their logical thesis analytical skills. They are required to produce presentation and writings based on their reading of more advanced classics in Japanese and Chinese as well. Classes are divided into classes according to the language skills considering the difference in each student’s background.
Kokugo 12 (12th Grade)
Students in this course learn the same level materials as 12th grade Kokugo in Japan. This course aims to prepare students for the rigorous college-level Kokugo at Keio University. Students will develop their skill of expressing their thoughts clearly in Japanese through practicing professional writing and presentations. They will also improve their understanding of classic Japanese literature.

This includes the possibility of a course being unavailable for a certain grade due to scheduling difficulty even though the registration list says that the course will be offered to 11th&12th grade, for example. |
