Music 9 (9th Grade)

This course includes songs, music appreciation, basic music, study of Beethoven, Orchestra Instruments and a review of junior high school music.

 

Music 10, Band and Chorus (10th Grade)

This course includes band, chorus, and personal presentation, as well as music appreciation and history, with an emphasis on Traditional Japanese instruments and classical music such as the music of Mozart. The band instruments are flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone horn, tuba, oboe, bassoon, upright bass, cello, viola, violin, drums, and piano: this class is an exciting opportunity for students to practice and perform great music. There will be at least three concerts during the year. Students who do not play instruments can enjoy performing in front of their friends and family in the Keio Academy of New York 10th grade chorus, where they will learn the wonderful art of singing. Students enrolling in 10th grade band class must have previous experience in playing a concert band instrument.

 

Music 11, Band and Chorus (11th Grade)

Music 12, Band (12th Grade)

12th grade band will focus on many different types of music: classical, popular, jazz, rock, funk, R&B, blues, and many more. This is an experience for students who play flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone horn, tuba, oboe, bassoon, upright bass, cello, viola, violin, drums, or piano to become true masters of their instrument in a fun and stimulating environment. The three performances during the year are for the young musicians to showcase their talents in front of friends and family. Students taking band in 12th grade must have taken band in previous grades or have experience in playing a concert band instrument.

 

Music 12, Chorus (12th Grade)

Chorus, will include selections in both English and Japanese covering all types of music from classics to popular. Songs will be selected by the students. Voice training and sight reading will be covered.

 

Course offerings and course contents may vary academic year to academic year depending on registering student numbers, instructors and/or instructors’ availability. This includes the possibility of a course being not available for a certain grade due to scheduling difficulty even though the registration list says that the course will be offered to 11th&12th grade, for example.
