1. Language and Cross-Cultural
Participants will explore Japanese and American language, history and culture in the formal classroom setting as well as through video production workshops. In the classrooms, the participants will not only take language classes (Japanese or English) but will have the opportunity to choose from a variety of elective classes, such as literature, history and culture.
2. Hands-on Video Production Workshop
This workshop will be offered in collaboration with Downtown Community Television Center (DCTV), teaching youth media for over 30 years. Participants will work in groups to produce short films. Each group will be supervised by a DCTV instructor, learning basic camera techniques, the art of storytelling, and basic editing. On the last day of the program, each group will present their final video production to friends and family members.
3. Sense of Community
Participants will have a chance to work with peers from Japan and the United States on our beautiful nature-filled campus.
There will be several field trips to New York City and the suburbs. Students will participate in cultural exchange, sports activities, a tour of NYC exploring Japanese book stores and grocery stores, and attending Broadway musicals.
