Director of Counseling and College Guidance: Mr. Kenichi Satate
Counselor: Ms. Michiko Yamaguchi
Counseling services are available to all students at Keio Academy of New York. Both the Director and Counselor are full-time bilingual and New York State-licensed professionals who provide a wide range of counseling services to students. The goal of counseling is to promote the emotional and social well-being of students while they are enrolled at Keio Academy, as well as assist them with their academic progress. What is discussed in counseling remains confidential, except when the Director and Counselor determine that the student is at risk of harming himself/herself or others. A student's involvement with counseling does not affect grades or academic standing, and will not be kept in the school records. Counseling sessions may be scheduled with the Director or Counselor at no charge. Both the Director and Counselor provide consultations to students as well as to parents, faculty, and staff members who may have student-related concerns. All referrals can be made through the Counseling Department. When referrals are made to outside professionals (psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, therapists, etc.), the students and parents are responsible for any fees they may charge. Peer Counselors and Peer Tutors, volunteers in 11th and 12th grade who are supervised by the Director and Counselor, are also available for fellow students. They are a valuable resource for academic and emotional support.
