Every year for this contest, the university collects tanka (classical Japanese poems) written by students and children from across the country under the theme of “the perspectives and thoughts on life of today’s youth”. This 31th year, 49,259 people submitted their refreshing and spirited poetry.
From the 100 tanka that are selected to be published in the anthology, we can see the feelings and thoughts of Japan’s youth on their accomplishments and daily life. From overseas, students from Keio Academy of New York submitted their works, of which 2 were selected for publication. Please see the 2 tanka below (in the original Japanese).
