Mr. Kenichi Satate
I am honored and delighted to serve the students, faculty and staff members, parents, and our community members as the newly appointed Assistant Headmaster of Keio Academy of New York. I am looking forward to assisting our Headmaster in making this a great school year. I believe that Keio Academy of New York is a wonderful place to learn.
I will oversee all operations of student affairs and extracurricular programs in order to make a better school environment. I would also like to make sure that all of our students are intellectually challenged and have access to the social and emotional support critical to students. My hope is that all Keio community members can practice Keio University founder Yukichi Fukuzawa’s educational philosophies of “Jitsugaku (Science)” and “Hangaku-hankyo (Learning while teaching, teaching while learning).” When we practice these together, we will find our next steps to advance ourselves. I believe that it is very important for all of us to practice these philosophies as active community members.
For more than twenty years I have spent much of my professional career working with high school students and at risk youth, as well as consulting faculty and staff members, parents, and school administrators in regards to students’ issues or crisis cases and other situations. Currently, I am directing the Department of Counseling and College Guidance as well as our Headmaster’s Vision Project - Professional Development and the School Accreditation (NYSAIS) Committee. In recent years, I held the position of Dean of Student Affairs for three years, was a Japanese History teacher, and directed our Pre-Entry Program for ten years. All of my professional experiences have taught me how to work with our students to help them make appropriate decisions going forward so they can become better school community citizens, as well as achieve their academic and extracurricular goals.
My primary goal is to assist each and every student with academic and emotional success in an emotionally and physically safe environment. In order for learning to occur, we should expect mutual respect among all Keio Academy community members. I will focus my professional strengths on providing constant support for the entire Keio Academy team. The high school period is an important time of transition for students. Our job as a team is to prepare our students to be successful at Keio University or other higher institutions. Parents, faculty and staff members, and school administrators all need to work together to help each student meet and exceed our expectations. Frequent communication is a key to success. I am here to support you in any way that I can. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. I look forward to working with each and every one of you. Together, we can make Keio Academy of New York the best it can be. I appreciate your continued support.
